Technology glossary

OLED displays

OLED panels produce light at pixel level. Their way of displaying black therefore differs from backlit LCD panels.

Samsung explains that OLED pixels light individually, whereas Mini LED is a backlighting technology. Mini LED and OLED are different technologies.

AMOLED phones and OLED TVs are implementations within the wider family. Sharing an OLED label does not guarantee identical brightness, colour accuracy, subpixel layout or durability.
