ASUS TUF Gaming F16 (2024) FX607JV

The TUF Gaming F16 FX607JV is ASUS’s 2024 mid-range gaming laptop. It pairs the 14-core Core i7-13650HX with an RTX 4060 Laptop GPU drawing up to 130 W, and has a MUX switch with Advanced Optimus, two SO-DIMM and two M.2 slots, Thunderbolt 4 and a 90 Wh battery. Testing liked the audio, keyboard and upgrade room; the display’s brightness and colour coverage were modest, and battery life and cooling headroom were found limited.

FX607JV: Intel Core i7-13650HX, GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU 8 GB (130 W = 105 W + 25 W Dynamic Boost), 16-inch WUXGA 165 Hz IPS display, 90 Wh battery. RAM and SSD capacity depend on the retail SKU (e.g. 2 × 8 GB in ASUS Canada’s table; 2 × 16 GB and 1 TB in the Spanish test unit). The RTX 4050 FX607JU, the Core 5 210H FX607VU/VJ and the 2025 TUF F16 (FX608) are separate models.

Specifications

SpecificationValue
ProcessorIntel Core i7-13650HX: 14 cores (6 P + 8 E), 2.6 GHz, up to 4.9 GHz, 24 MB cache
GraphicsNVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU, 8 GB GDDR6; 2420 MHz at 130 W (2370 MHz boost + 50 MHz OC; 105 W + 25 W Dynamic Boost)

130 W is the maximum GPU power when Dynamic Boost shifts budget from the CPU; 25 W is added to the sustained 105 W depending on load balance. This laptop GPU is not the same product as the desktop RTX 4060.

Display16-inch WUXGA (1920 × 1200) 16:10 IPS-level, anti-glare; 165 Hz; sRGB 100%, Adobe 75.35%; G-Sync

165 Hz means motion at up to 165 frames per second in suitable games; G-Sync matches refresh to frame rate to reduce tearing. The colour gamut suits sRGB content; it is not a wide-gamut panel.

Graphics switchingMUX Switch + NVIDIA Advanced Optimus

The MUX connects the display directly to the RTX GPU to cut latency and performance loss in games; Advanced Optimus can switch automatically without a restart and returns to the integrated GPU on battery.

MemoryDDR5 SO-DIMM, two slots, dual channel; capacity depends on SKU

The modules are not soldered and can be upgraded. According to ASUS, memory speed depends on the processor.

StoragePCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD; two M.2 PCIe slots in total (one used)

Capacity can be 512 GB, 1 TB or 2 TB depending on SKU; a second SSD can be added in the free slot.

ASUS lists G-SYNC support only for the USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port; the Thunderbolt 4 port has DisplayPort output but no G-SYNC listed. HDMI 2.1 FRL allows high refresh rates on compatible TVs and monitors.

Strengths and limitations

  • In Noticias3D’s test the display covered sRGB fully but measured 68.5% DCI-P3, about 300 nits and 1300:1 contrast; text on white backgrounds was hard to read in bright rooms. The 165 Hz rate and roughly 90% screen-to-body ratio were positives. The keyboard with 1.7 mm travel and a narrow numeric pad was liked; the speakers were good in mids and highs but weak in bass. The second M.2 slot is ready for another SSD. Full performance needed Turbo mode in Armoury Crate; the reviewer found cooling at its limit but adequate and battery life open to improvement, and saw the laptop as better suited to desk use than frequent travel.
