Sensor35.6 × 23.8 mm full-frame stacked Exmor RS CMOS with global shutter; about 24.6MP effective for stills, 20.3MP for video

A global shutter reads every row at once, so the skew seen on row-by-row sensors with spinning propellers, golf clubs or fast pans does not occur.

Sony
23.5 × 15.6 mm (APS-C) X-Trans CMOS 5 HS; 26.16 million effective pixels; ultrasonic sensor cleaning

According to Fujifilm the stacked, back-illuminated design quadruples readout speed, which reduces rolling-shutter skew on moving subjects with the electronic shutter and in video.

Fujifilm
Processor and ISOBIONZ XR; ISO 250–25600 for stills (expanded 125–51200)

A base ISO of 250 means the lowest-noise setting is higher than on cameras with an ISO 100 base.

AutofocusFast Hybrid AF; 759 phase-detection points for stills, 627 for video SonyIntelligent Hybrid AF (contrast + phase detection); phase detection down to −7.0 EV; face/eye plus animal, bird, car, motorcycle/bike, airplane and train detection

The −7.0 EV figure is with the XF50mmF1.0 attached; the limit changes with slower lenses.

Fujifilm
Burst and shutterAbout 120 fps (Hi+), blackout-free; electronic shutter only, 1/80,000–30 s

Sony says AF/AE tracking continues at 120 fps. Speed Boost switches to a preset higher rate with one button during shooting; Pre-Capture keeps up to 1 second recorded before the shutter is pressed.

Sony
—
Flash syncUp to 1/80,000 s (electronic); 1/500 s

Thanks to the global shutter, flash can be used even at the fastest shutter speed without switching to high-speed sync.

Sony
—
In-body stabilisation5-axis sensor shift; 8.0 stops (CIPA)

The figure is measured with the FE 50mm F1.2 GM on pitch/yaw only.

Sony
—
Viewfinder and screen0.64-type OLED viewfinder, 9,437,184 dots, 0.90x; 3.2-type 2,095,104-dot touchscreen (multi-angle)

The viewfinder refreshes at 60/120/240 fps. The screen tilts up 98°, down 40°, swings 180° to the side and rotates 270°.

Sony

VideoUp to 4K 119.88p; XAVC S (8-bit 4:2:0 or 10-bit 4:2:2), XAVC HS (10-bit 4:2:2), XAVC S-I 4K 59.94p (600 Mbps)

XAVC HS is H.265-based, producing smaller files at the same quality but needing a stronger computer to edit. XAVC S-I records intra-frame only, easier to edit but with large files.

Sony
6.2K 3:2 open gate (6240 × 4160) up to 29.97p; DCI 4K/4K up to 120p; Full HD up to 240p; Apple ProRes 422 HQ/422/LT, H.265 (including All-Intra) and H.264; 4:2:2 10-bit

ProRes is only recorded to a CFexpress Type B card. Open gate records the full 3:2 sensor area, so footage can later be cropped for horizontal and vertical formats. The optional FAN-001 cooling fan can be attached for long recordings in high temperatures.

Fujifilm
Card slotsTwo slots; each takes SD (UHS-I/II) or CFexpress Type A

CFexpress Type A cards are better suited to clearing the buffer quickly when shooting RAW at 120 fps.

BatteryNP-FZ100; about 400 shots with the viewfinder and 530 with the screen (CIPA); charging and power over USB PD SonyNP-W235 lithium-ion; about 580 shots (720 in Economy mode); about 70 minutes of actual 4K 60p recording

Figures are per CIPA standard with the XF35mmF1.4 R.

Fujifilm
ConnectivityUSB-C 10 Gb/s (USB 3.2); plus Multi/Micro USB; 1000BASE-T wired LAN; Wi-Fi 802.11ac (2.4/5 GHz); Bluetooth 5.0; Type-A HDMI

Wired LAN is used to send photos quickly to agencies at sports and news events. Full-size HDMI gives a sturdier connection in the field than micro HDMI.

Size and weightAbout 136.1 × 96.9 × 82.9 mm; about 702 g with battery and card (body only 617 g) Sony136.3 × 92.9 × 84.6 mm; about 660 g with battery and card (579 g body only) Fujifilm
Processor and mount—X-Processor 5; FUJIFILM X mount

Fujifilm says X-Processor 5 is twice as fast as the previous generation and enables deep-learning subject detection.

Fujifilm
Image stabilisation—5-axis sensor-shift stabilisation, up to 7.0 stops (CIPA); digital stabilisation and IS Boost in video

The 7-stop rating is per CIPA, for pitch/yaw shake only and with the XF35mmF1.4 R lens.

Fujifilm
Shutter and burst—Mechanical to 1/8000 s, electronic to 1/32000 s; about 40 fps with the electronic shutter, 15 fps mechanical; Pre-shot; flash sync 1/250 s

At 40 fps about 175 compressed RAW frames are recorded; these figures were measured with a CFexpress Type B card. Pre-shot records frames while the shutter is half-pressed.

Fujifilm
Storage media—Dual slots: CFexpress Type B (up to 2 TB) and SD/SDHC/SDXC (UHS-I/UHS-II, V90)

Stills can be saved as JPEG, HEIF (4:2:2 10-bit) and 14-bit RAW.

Fujifilm
Viewfinder and screens—0.5-inch OLED viewfinder, about 5.76 million dots, 100% coverage; 3.0-inch vari-angle touchscreen LCD, 1.62 million dots; 1.28-inch top information display

The vari-angle screen flips out to the side and rotates, which helps for selfies and vertical video.

Fujifilm
Connections—USB Type-C (USB 3.2 Gen 2x1), full-size HDMI (Type A), 3.5 mm microphone and headphone, 2.5 mm remote release, flash sync terminal; Wi‑Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2 Fujifilm
Body—Weather-resistant body; operating temperature −10 to +40 °C Fujifilm
