Technology glossary

MIP (memory-in-pixel) display

A reflective display type in which each pixel holds its own memory, readable in sunlight and low in power use.

For Enduro 4, Garmin describes the display as a 'sunlight-visible transflective memory-in-pixel (MIP)' panel. Transflective screens use ambient light, which keeps them readable outdoors and reduces the need for a backlight.

Garmin presents the Enduro 4 MIP display together with the solar lens as part of its long battery life. Independent writers note that MIP is less sharp and vivid than AMOLED, in exchange for sunlight readability and low power use.
