It brings 7 mm TrueResponse drivers, hybrid adaptive noise cancellation, aptX Lossless and LC3 support and Bluetooth 5.4, with up to 30 hours of playback including the case and Qi wireless charging. According to Sennheiser, audio resolution up to 24-bit/96 kHz is supported with a compatible source.

Adaptive mode sets the cancellation level automatically for the surrounding noise; Transparency Mode lets outside sound in without removing the earbuds.

Bluetooth and codecsBluetooth 5.4 (Classic and LE Audio); SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX Adaptive/Lossless, LC3; A2DP, AVRCP, HFP, TMAP, PBP

aptX Lossless needs a Snapdragon Sound phone that supports it; an iPhone uses AAC. According to Sennheiser, Auracast broadcast listening only arrives through a firmware update. Multipoint lets it switch between two devices.

Strengths and limitations

  • What Hi-Fi? found the MOMENTUM True Wireless 4 rich, detailed and dynamic, comfortable to wear, with responsive and widely assignable touch controls. In an ANC test in a busy pub more sound, especially in the treble, came through than with the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds; the level was close to the AirPods Pro 2. The Anti Wind setting reduced wind noise. Call quality and noise cancelling were said to be beaten by rivals, and the warm tuning may not suit listeners who prefer a neutral sound.

Owner experiences and issues

  • More than half of the 83 non-promotional reviews on Best Buy Canada praise the sound quality, and many owners also like the ANC. On the negative side, about twenty reviews mention connection problems: pairing that does not hold, dropouts in crowded places, unwanted switching between devices. About ten separate owners wrote that one earbud stopped working, would not hold a charge or crackled with ANC on after a few months to a year; one said Sennheiser does not repair earbuds out of warranty. A few owners found the touch surfaces too sensitive, and some could not get a secure fit.

Best Buy Canada, MOMENTUM True Wireless 4 Black Graphite listing (SKU 17725669), 83 non-promotional reviews among the latest 350; some are syndicated from Sennheiser’s own site and from other countries. No failure rate or chronic defect was inferred; firmware versions are not stated.
